I was drinking some of last year's El Salvador Cup of Excellence winning Finca La Montana from Brother Baba Budan and told Mark that I'd love to try a darker roast of it for espresso. So imagine my delight when Mark actually did it for me - very generous, considering the cost and scarcity of this bean and the fact that CoE lots are really judged as lighter roast levels. Anyhoo, I just sat back and enjoyed both a traditional cupping and a vac pot of it. The acidity level is exactly where I wanted it, so I'm excited to see how it will translate to espresso.
I thought that I shouldn't be the only one to know about this roast, so if you're interested, ask for the darker May 21 La Montana roast at St Ali/BBB. Not sure how much they roasted, so apologies in advance if you check and it isn't available.
