Hey!  Another DC guy.  They have a "Red Eye" at Dean & Deluca in Georgetown as well.  I think they use the same name despite offering different sizes (and corresponding espresso shot numbers) if I remember correctly, although it's been about a year since I've been there!

They may have also been getting at something like a "Jaegerbomb". It would be a non-takeout drink and you would pull the shot then drop it into the coffee like you would a shot of dry rum into a beer.
