Subject: coffee liquor?

ive been wanting to make a coffee liquor for a while.  i looked for recipes and most all of them use espresso powder or foldgers crystals etc.  i have a concoction in my fridge right now with fresh roasted and fresh ground coffee. I'll let you know how it turns out.  until then, have any of you made a coffee liquor (good or bad, so i know what to do and not do)

I don't know about the fridge concoction, but I made cappuccinos quite often with Carolans (or Bailey's) in it.  I usually put about an ounce in a traditional cappuccino and steam it with the milk.  Still makes nice microfoam - definitely workable for latte art.

Joey, how did your experiment turn out? I've made my own fruit-infused liquors, and I've fortified wine, but I've never worked w/ coffee. I'd guess that you might have success following some of the same principles as cold-brewing?? What did you do, and how did it come out?

I have a recipe for Kahlua that is pretty good but uses instant coffee. I would rather wait until a fresh batch is made with espresso before giving it out. It involves fresh vanilla beans cooking down the sugar and vodka. I generally hand out about fifty 1/2 pints around the holiday.

i let it steep for about 3 weeks.  still too harsh, but the alcohol content was higher than a liquor--still same as vodka(i used svedka, decent midgrade vodka).  if i were to add water or next time add simple syrup after the coffee steeps in the vodka, it would be smooother (lower alcohol content) It worked good in a white russian though :D.
Some recipes used whole beans versus ground.  Another thing to try i guess next time...  I also used fresh vanilla in mine...
I also make my own vanilla syrup with raw sugar and vanilla beans.
