I had a dedicated email address for public use at CG, but it looks like the spammers have gleaned that address.  Nothing really news there.

Just noticed coffee product emails from Vietnam and they are using my CG email address.

Seems to be a fact of life nowadays unfortunately.

A couple of mail providers that I use have pretty effective spam filters - haven't had a genuine email end up in the spam bin and hardly ever see any spam through to the main address. It may be worth changing email hosts?

Now, if only there was something I could do about those pizza and curry leaflets that come through my letterbox everyday...

Haven't used that address for any other coffee related sites or communication.  Created specifically for use solely on CG, so that's how I know where they got the email address.  Would have been someone signed up as a member gleaning all the email addresses I guess.

I don't generally get coffee related spam, so I noticed it and then the address they sent it to.  Not a big deal by any means though.

I recommend Fastmail - very effective adaptive spam filters. http://www.fastmail.fm I have also trained my Mac Mail program using their built-in junk mail filters and it's pretty adept now at trashing the spam.

Sort of along the same lines, but not quite...

I got an email from a guy selling "healthy coffee" the other day (jstovall@healthynaturalcoffee.com). He admitted he got my address from here. He basically was advertising his product...and got defensive when I replied that I didn't appreciate him abusing the good nature of people here by accessing our email addresses and using them for advertising, and that he shouldn't email me again about anything that wasn't along the lines of Mark's intention in creating this site. I also had to point out that while coffee related, his email was still junk mail...and his product is not "CoffeeGeek" level by any stretch of the word. I told him if he wants to advertise through CG he should sign up as a site sponsor.

Hey, I got an email from that guy recently too.  Deleted it.

Amazing that he responded to you, but I guess he wants a sale...
