this might seem like a dumb question...but i've seen green beans being sold as decaf? For the longest time, i thought that the decaf process was accomplished during, or before roasting. Is this true, you can have decaf green beans? If so, i know some people who i can help...

I know that we had some decaf green beans from Guatemala a while ago, and the decaf process is usually happening before the roasting, I think. Or, at least the H2O processed ones are.
I know that Mercanta might have some green decaf beans from time to time, but if you're a home roaster, they won't ship coffee to you, if you don't want to order 5 bags at a time (approx. 300kg). But if they have decaf green beans, others might too.
I have also been wondering the same thing. Actually I'm a heavy coffee drinker so I thought to give decaffeinated coffee a try. I don't know much about green bean being decaf but thank you to the above person who shared his knowledge with us about it. It is quite informative.
All decaffeination is carried out on green beans. Since coffee flavor is developed in roasting the beans, roasted beans are very fragile and sensitive to time and the environment with respect to flavor.
