Subject: Green Coffee Extract?

There has been a bit of a buzz lately about green coffee extract.  All manner of health claims are being made for it including weight loss.

Is there anything to this?  Is there any machine which will grind our green beans so we can pull our own green shots?

Personally I wouldn't want to drink a shot or drink made from brewed freshly ground green coffee beans.  I heard that green coffee beans are the dirtiest food product around, coming from 3rd world countries with their very poor living and working conditions.  Disease runs amok.  Whereby roasting kills any pathogens the beans may have; I kind of have doubts about boiling water doing the same.

However if anyone dares give it a try, I suggest first getting raw kopi luwak or Jacu Bird a try.  Now that would be a real treat.

Thanks for the link.  It was interesting.  I was amazed that Tom would risk his Mahlkonig by putting green beans into it.  I did a job on a Solis 166 years ago by putting lightly roasted beans into it.

I guess I'll just get my green coffee extract from Dr. Oz.

Hi Len,

I am on the same page with you. I wont even use the same measuring cup for roasted coffee that I use for green without washing it for fear of cross contamination.

Hopefully Dr. Oz has this worked out.  He is a Doctor after all!

Buy the way I did try the bird - poo coffee when Tom was selling it.  It was a good Brazilian coffee but not worth $12 / lb green in my view.  I have not yet had the nerve to try Kopi Luwak.

I wonder how the sanitization process does work, without cooking the extract.  UV radiation?

It would be comforting if the Doc describes the sanitization process.
