Espresso: SAECO AROMA Grinder: ROCKY
Posted Fri Jun 15, 2012, 11:37am Subject: Newbie
I have been reading on here for a while and decided to join. Taken a lot of advice from the forums here on grinders and machines. Bought an older Saeco Aroma machine and a Rocky grinder to start off pulling my own shots. Have really enjoyed experimenting with different coffees. First coffee tried was Inteligentsia Black Cat Sugar Glider. I got it dialed in pretty well and was pulling some pretty good shots. I am now trying Red Bird and really like it. Looking forward to trying other coffees mentioned on here as well.

Jon, welcome to the CG Forums!
Have you removed the "crema enhancer?" It's also called a pressurized port filter. If not, you're not getting what most would consider "real" crema. No tamping is needed with the pressurized pf/basket, but will be necessary once you perform some simple surgery on your PF basket. Or, has it already been done?
Your Rocky, while an old design, can still churn out some good grind. There are a couple of modifications for it that will help with grind consistency. As I'm lazy and tired tonight, search here or on Google for "Rocky Modifications" or Rancillio Rocky Modifications.
