Posted Thu Nov 3, 2011, 1:12pm Subject: Food for thought about Vendor Complaints
I have witnessed way too many times either a newbie or a senior member of CG with very few or no posts going off about a purchase they made from a well known company often discussed very favorably on CG.
Seems like a last venue that the accuser uses to tarnish the vendors rep because they cannot get satisfaction any other way.
I can guarantee that after their bitchfest is completed, they never come back to get involved in any other discussions about coffee. Or they just come back again to go off on another vendor.
This has to stop. I would like to offer a suggestion to the mods here at CG. Maybe a change in complaint rules in that a member must be a senior member with at least 100 posts under their belt until they can bad mouth a company.
Seems like the right and good thing to do.
I hope this is well received.

I think an open forum should be open to all voices. If we censor honest opinion (honest can mean upset, dissatisfied, etc) then what are we? Fanboys?
If someone is pissed then let them rant away - if the vendor drops the ball then shame on the vendor - if the poster is inappropriate then their account will be discredited.
Never never never censor - smart people do not need help thinking.

The people who get on this forum to belittle reputable companies seem to be infrequent posters who are as much a part of this community as they could be. These are the same folks who do not wish to take time to do a "SEARCH" of older posts before they begin to rant. I agree with all of the above posts (in spirit) but have to admit that I was much taken aback with the recent thread re: Baratza. These things happen in all types of business, but unfortunately many people will only remember the negative. It is definitely a problem and I, for one, do not have an easy answer.

Not censor, Eric, but put in place a requirement that the poster have at least 100 posts and be a senior member. If one wants to set forth a serious accusation against anyone or a company/vendor, one should first prove that they are a serious member of this community through established participation.

An excellent idea if it could be programmed so that one could only post in that section if they had 100+ posts under their belt and senior member status. I don't know if the programming used for CG has that capability, but if it did your idea is wonderful.

100 post rule reminds me of the 10 posts to sell something rule: 10 posts in 30 minutes, list a piece of equipment, sell it, and disappear.
If I am unhappy, why do I have to wait 100 posts to say so? This is a barrier to communication. The foundation of open forum is the free exchange of ideas.
Also, I do not consider you to be impartial in your suggestion either since you sell items online and post links to the site in your signature.
If my son buys something from you and is less than happy, why should he have to wait 100 posts to tell others about his experience?
