Okay, my wife decided that she's going to win a trip to Australia. "Err.. you hope to win", I reflexively corrected. I get into a lot of trouble with replies like that. She looked a bit crushed for a moment, then rebounded, "No, I would be the best spokesman ever for Australia & they are going to pick me!" with more certainty than I can muster for just about anything. I have to admit that her excitement is a bit contagious. You probably heard about the contest that she is talking about in the news. Apply for "the best job in the word". Ostensibly they are looking for someone to take care of Hamilton Island, but it's really a PR campaign to boost tourism for Queensland (eastern Australia).
Some 29,000 people submitted one minute video applications, hoping to win a six-month trip to Australia. So I guess it's been a pretty successful promotion so far. The winner is whoever they think has the most charisma or enthusiasm for the "job". I'm hoping that my wife wins; for one thing it would mean that I'd get to go too. Actually they would be hard pressed to find anyone more passionate about travel in general or Australia in particular. I hope that a few Coffeegeeks will take 60 seconds to go have a look at her video. And if you like it (it obviously deserves five stars, right?), you can even vote by clicking on the "Rate me" stars to to the side of the video. It would be much appreciated & if we end up relocating to Hamilton Island we'd be more than happy to have any Coffeegeeks that can make it out stop by for a coffee & enjoy the view. Perhaps more concrete, if it is kosher with the mods, I will be offering some modest swag (a new Press Pot or AeroPress, at least) for those who have taken the time to look at her video. If she gets short listed next week or actually wins, then honour decrees that the swag would only get better. I know that she would really appreciate the moral support whether she wins or not.
Just visit the link below to see the video (the video is only 60 seconds) Then post in this thread that you watched it & you will have an equal chance (winner choosen at random) of walking away with the swag

Haha, the first video from applicants was from a girl in Vancouver. Somehow I think unless you're ridiculously (or pretty close to that) good looking you dont have much chance of getting that 'job'. Did you guys apply?
