My two vices, premium cigars and premium coffee (since I no longer drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes).  I was wondering if there were any other folks that share an interest in cigars.

Macanudo or Ashton for my everyday cigar...with espresso...or a >20 year old scotch...depending on the time of day.

Yep for cigars here. Favourites include Padron X000's, RP Edge, Oliva V, Joya de Nicaruaga Antano, Carlos Torano Virtuoso and of course those from "An Island South Of Miami"!!!!

Used to love Fuente but the way they play the markets and seem to "Support" gouging, I buy none of their products any more.

I knew this would drive a few out of the woodwork.  LOL

Ashtons are a good, mild, creamy smoke but I prefer heavier stuff.  Jim, you and I share the same tastes.  Love the edge and the V.  You smoked any of Don Pepin Garcia's stuff?

The only Fuentes I buy are the seasonal releases (Anejos and Opus).  I buy them in Kentucky for fairly reasonable prices.  You are in Canada, correct (or Eh? LOL) ?  Do you buy your ISOMs there at those prices?

Not many. Can't say I've developed a taste for 'em. Too many I love now for cheaper to delve into those.

Those (along with Sun Growns) are the main reason I came to dislike the Fuente way of doing things. Love the flavours and one of the best constructed brands out there, but to have to beg borrow and steal to pay through the nose for 'em WHEN you can get 'em is BS

Hell no!!!! $60 for a Siglo VI, $70 if you want the Tubo?? I make one or two trips a year to Cuba.

Ironic...... My son brought me a cigar tonight sent to me by an old Cuban friend of mine I haven't seen in years, hand rolled by himself......52 ring gauge x 7"...dry, rough start...mild mid...not quite top quality tobacco but good enough...let you know about the finish when I get there.

I'm out of my element here, but out of curiosities sake, have any of you had a Connecticut Valley cigar?

I ask because as a teenager I used to have a job picking the tobacco on one of the Connecticut Valley farms.  The job I had was picking the leaves for the wrappers (shade grown).  Other farms had the Broad Leaf tobacco (not shade grown) which I believe is used for the filler.

It was a horrible job.  Very tedious hard work.

CRC...you're in Vernon, CT, I presume?  My wife and I lived in Enfield for a year (1990) when I had a temporary assignment there.

CT leaf is primarily used for wrapper; it is used world-wide and is recognized as the best for milder cigars.  There are a few cigars that are mostly made from CT tobacco (Muniemaker, I believe is one).  They are machine-made (vs. hand-rolled), low-priced, and are just OK.  Not something I smoke.  The taste of today's smoker trends toward heavier-bodied cigars, but as I said, the CT wrapper (Connecticut shade its called) is still widely used.

Hope this helps.

Spencer, if you were a woman I'd ask you to marry me.

Seeing as you're not, I'll just settle for "respected industry e-acquaintance".
