I started developing a real taste for coffee during the 70's while serving in the US Air Force. I was the designated manager of the daily coffee supply for about 150 aircraft pilots. Using a 40 cup percolator many times throughout the day and the social aspects which are naturally part of coffee drinking led me to develop a taste for real coffee. I kind of strayed away from my oersuit of the perfect cup until a couple of years ago. Getting tired of the routinely burnt taste of Starbucks coffee and the cost aspect, I began to experiment with other gourmet brands (Ugly Mug- Memphis - Good). I got obcessed with espresso requiring the purchase of a Capresso Expresso Pro and Infinity Burr Grinder. As if this wasn't enough, I got really interested in roasting my own beans and started out with and I-Roast2, which I still totally enjoy. I have developed quite a few roast profiles and love the taste of fresh roasted coffee, whether, expresso, drip, and now french press (Bodum). I enjoy sharing my roasted coffee and espresso drinks with others. I think I am an addict. Since southwest Tennessee is primarily known as a distribution hub but not noted for coffee, I am trying to gain more knowledge of roasting and other business aspects of roasting, distribution, and possibly owning my own coffee shop eventually. You see, I am at the point in my IT career that I need to look into a career related to my passion. I have joiined the SCAA as part of my fact finding mission and also the Green Been Buying club.

hi, i'm a novice coffee drinker, but my husband is a little more experienced...he is deployed right now and i would like to get him a really good drip machine for festivus ...i've read about the capresso tec and team, technivorm and bunn...however, i don't know what to really look for...i would also like to be able to enjoy coffee without milk or sugar or just milk alone...please advise
good to the last drop...am i not supposed to say that?

Hi, I'm a coffee novice too. I use my mom's Saeco Armonia to make espresso, and I'm starting home roasting my beans in a popcorn popper. As for the grinder, I'm trying to convince my mom to let me upgrade (aka, I buy, I keep, but I kindly let her use it 'till I move out) her crappy Braun KMM30 to a used Mazzer Super Joly or Rancilio Rocky. Isn't working too well due to the financial aspect of being a HS student and needing to save up for Uni, but I'm trying ;D
I'm currently in eastern Canada, if anybody in the Thousand Islands region knows of a good coffee shop, give me a shout :o)

Following in the footsteps of the academic-half, I live in Connecticut, a fish out of the pristine PCNW waters. A quick and immediate survey of the SC scene here was disappointing. Yet, the need for cash prevailed and I got a job at one of the few local espresso based cafe's. Nine month's later they asked me to be in charge; while its a fun project, I'm discovering that I'm considerably uneducated to (drastically) improve the quality of specialty coffee available to New Haven (i.e. Yale). World class education does not carry with it world class coffee.
Though it means little and will likely not be read by those mentioned, posted here into the void, I would like to specifically thank the Coffee Cottage and the Underground (Newberg, Oregon), Stumptown, the hard working and charming folks at the Fresh Pot on Hawthorne, the Albina Press, and, the so far undiscussed (but much deserved) Extracto. You guys don't know me, but, I have learned from you.

So I was told to take a look at this board and the next day I ordered the Behmor 1600 and The Virtuoso alomg with 15lbs of beans. I got it Friday and I need to order more beans today. I am hooked!
