Hello I am a coffee lover of all shapes and sizes-much to the dismay of my husband  :) However, I lean more towards the espresso, latte and cappuccino side of things. In my house we have a standard drip coffee machine for my husband and an espresso machine and all the gadgets and flavors for me. I decorated the kitchen in a coffee theme and am always on the lookout for new ideas and twists on the standard, and not so standard, cup of java.

I am an engineer for Union Pacific railroad and have even bought myself a french press so that I can carry it on the train with me and "press" new coffee instead of having to drink out of a thermos. (Spoiled you say? Nope just a great lover of fresh coffee)So here I am...

Recently, I aquired a Commercial espresso machine( a class 2 Sorrento) and I have questions about this particular machine but I am thinking I am gonna need to post that somewhere else so that is not lost in an off topic file somewhere.

I am so excited to find a place where I can connect with other coffee lovers like me and be able to bounce my questions and ideas off someone other than my husband who simply nods his head and says "yes dear"..(not that that is a bad thing :) )

Hi Coffee Lovers!

I am Origosis,

I like instant coffee and drip style. I can appreciate a good cup of coffee, but honestly do not have the taste buds to fully enjoy other methods. So a curse and a blessing.  a Curse cause I can't fully enjoy coffee, and a blessing cause I can totally fall in love with the cheapest of coffees made with the cheapest methods.

For example I have come to LOVE PriceRite Instant Coffee. My Wife got me into instant coffee, and I was skeptical at first.. At the time I liked to get decent bags of coffee and use my decent drip brewer. then she introudeces me to the lowest of the low.. Pricerite Instant Coffee... and i love it!

That's enough our of me for now.

Thanks,
Origosis (AKA Mateo)

Love love love anyone who is passionate on an obsessive level about coffee.  Moved from Seattle to Hattiesburg, MS before the hurricane in order to bring great coffee to the underserved.  I (with my family's help & support) opened a lovely 3700sqft shop on the main drag & bought the best equipment (I think  anyways) given my budget (Synesso 3 group, grinders, etc.) then treked to Costa Rica to source my own beans.  Fell in love with the country & now moving there permenantly!

I fell in love with espresso at Tazza d'Oro during our honeymoon in Italy in 2004.  When I returned to the USA with my beans from Italy I HAD TO HAVE a real espresso machine to do the beans justice!  My first big jump was into my  ECM Giotto that has been exceptional ever since.  It has been fun learning to use my Mazzer grinder to get the grind to the right level of perfect espresso.  There is nothing like a perfect cup!  My husband is a regular doppio drinker and I am the cap, latte and mocha fanatic.

I was born and raised in the Bay Area and relocated to So Cal about 6 years back and work as a Regional Sales Manager in the network testing field.  This site has been a awesome source for information!

Ok, I've been lurking and posting here for a little while, but didn't realize there was a "welcome" space.  I'm just getting into the upscale espresso passion, so bear with me while I learn from all the collective knowledge.  I did quickly come to the conclusion that the Vario grinder was the one for me (small footprint, flexibility, etc.), and at the price I found it, was just too good to pass up (hint:  a 10% off ebay coupon works wonders here).  I only drink espresso currently, but there's always room for more coffee drinks.  I consider most purchases on equipment (Aeropress, Barista grinder and machine, Bialetti pot) so far to be well worth the money, so I'm sure that I'll get more upgradeitis in the future.  We have very little good coffee here in San Antonio, so brewing at home is a must.   Glad to be here!

Hey everyone, newbie here. I've been drinking massive quantities of coffee for years, and I love a good cup.

BUT, last week, I was on vacation in Portland, Oregon. I went to this breakfast joint and they served coffee in a french press. It was by far the best cup of coffee I have ever had in my entire life, and I was immediately hooked. I came home and bought a french press, and used my pre-ground coffee in it ... it tasted good, but nothing like it did in Portland

Now, I'm on a hunt to recreate that cup of coffee. I figure Step #1 is replace my whirlybird grinder with something different. I dont' have a ton of money - so my budget is $100 max - looking at Capresso Infinity, and also the Breville BCG450xl.

I have a Brevile ESP-8XL espresso machine at home which I enjoy, so I am kinda partial to Breville.

Any thoughts on the grinder? Other than that - I don't plan on spending as much money as all you yahoos here :) just want to get a GOOD cup of coffee.

I'm pretty new here myself. Today I opened the box on my new Capresso Infinity grinder and ground some of my fresh roasted Kona beans and made my first cup of french press coffee. Wow, it was good. The grinder is so much quieter than my old Cuisenart grinder which was truely horribly loud.  Good luck in your hunt.

My name's David or Ananda. I've gotten geeked out on coffee recently. It had been years since I had been to Seattle, so I had all but forgotten what a good latte tastes like, when all of the sudden, Southside Coffee in Brooklyn served up one bad(bad meaning "good") latte. I realized it was over for me. The two years of satisfactory krups made, capresso ground lattes were over. The very next day, I couldn't even bear to drink the lattes I had been slurping down 2 years running. The days of buying coffee from big, open, undated barrels were over. That's when I discovered coffee geek. about 7 months ago.

I am now running a Silvia with a Mazzer Mini, Bezzera Mini Bar arrived today and an Elektra Barlume 2 grp on the way! What's happening to me?!?!?!? But seriously, have you seen that Elektra, can you blame me? for the price of a Silvia with a pid? Coffee...coffee. I liked what Gwillem Davies(sp?) said in his WBC champ round: Always in pursuit of that perfect espresso that doesn't exist. It is a memory, and how can an espresso compete with that?...But hell if I"m not gonna try.

Hello All,

This is my first posting here at coffeegeek. After doing a lot of research (thanks to this website), I have placed an order for a Silvia and a Vario from Chris coffee.

I have always loved and enjoyed coffee, but I never knew that there was so much to learn about it. Now I have a new hobby (an expensive one).

Does anyone know a good coffee shop near the DC area?

Regards,
Leo
