Subject: Good Espresso Roast

I would like to poll the coffee cognoscenti for a good coffee / roast to use for my new espresso machine.  I would like to find a good value as my wife and I tend to go through a good bit.  I would like to find a good supplier and and a good bean/roast to start to buy from, obviously something that is better than what I can find in the store.  I saw very good prices at Mod edit: Commercial link disabled but are they any good and where to start for making espresso?  Don't flame me, but before I bought the espresso machine I was fond of Starbucks Cafe Verona...  Now I am looking to expand my tastes a bit.

Also, any good roasters around Cleveland Ohio, I should look up.

Babies First Post!!

Thanks in Advance,
Jason

Find a boutique roaster near to where you live and make sure it is freshly roasted and rested for a few days before use. Buy enough to last a week or so and then get fresh as needed, this way you should always have the freshest beans possible.
Don't be afraid to try some single origin espresso, you will be surprised at some of the great beans out there that don't need to be blended.

Peet's Espresso Forte' is a pretty good blend. I also loved Counter Culture's Espresso Forte'. There are so many awesome roasters out there. You just have to find one that you like and stick with them.

So far, I think my favorite espresso blend is a tie between Counter Culture's Espresso Forte' and Intelligentsia's Black Cat Espresso. However, I also liked Peet's Espresso Forte'. It did well with milk-based drinks...I usually don't drink straight espresso. As for their Customer Service, Peet's is top notch. They document their roast dates right on the bag, so you know you are getting freshly roasted coffee. The coffee I ordered from Peet's was only 3 days from the roast date. It was awesome working with coffee that was sooo fresh! Also, I got my order quick!! I think it only took around 3 or 4 days. They will also answer your e-mails if you have any questions. I don't think you can lose if you take your business to Peet's.

I just orderd Peet's Arabian Mocha-Java blend..from what I've heard, it makes a killer espresso! So I'm pumped to try it out! Good luck in your search for a good espresso roast!! Cheers!

I usually get my beans from Gimme! Coffee - it's local for me but I used to order it when I lived elsewhere. It's a great blend.

I just found a taste I was looking for, Mod edit it is an Italian import and is so rich, smooth and not bitter.   My friend turned me on to it and I have to say, it is every bit as good as the best espressos that I fell in love with in Spain.  I highly recommend you try this one on for size.  Keep the inputs coming, I will have to try a few and start to compare notes.

If it's an Italian import it will be stale by the time you brew it!

Sounds good, I will send you a message this eve.  Do you roast there in Columbus?

Hi Jason
Last month, by chance, I discovered a local cafe that roasts its own beans several times daily in Cary, NC.  In the nearly 40 years that I've been searching for the best coffee roasts, I have not tasted any better espresso than that produced by their on-the-premises product.  Try these guys out and let me know what you think.  Their web site is Mod Edit: Commercial link removed!

This was my 10th posting and, being that, I didn't think that my recommendation broke any rules.  Sorry :(
