For sale is this TORR Classic Burled Walnut Unique tamper with a convex base. I ordered it because of all the wonderful things I’ve read about the craftsmanship of these tampers. Besides, I thought it would match the side panels of my Lever.
It took about 2 months to receive it from Germany. When I got it, I used it a grand total of ONE time. This is new, straight out-of-the-box, perfect in every way. I’ve found my tamping style conflicts with the design. My thumb nail jams into the piston. Not comfortable for tamping. Knowing what I know now, I think a better tamper for me would be the Goldfinger Series with the curved handle into the base.
What is striking about this tamper is the fit and finish. They don’t use a varnish on the handle, but a series of hand polishing to give it a natural shine. Since the wood is burled, they’ve filled the cracks with wax. A nice detail, in my opinion. Where the base connects with the piston has a beautiful fit. I can’t get an accurate measurement, but it looks like it stands 3 5/8’’ tall.
I wish I could be a baller and put this on a tamper shelf and look at it, but I’m not so I’m selling it. You can purchase one from the website for about $115 with the discount code…however, they are out-of-stock on the Burled Walnut.
It’s truly a unique tamper and you don’t see many come on the market. If I could get $100 shipped, I’d be happy.
