Yo,

Looking to sell my Baratza Encore. I bought it in the Fall of 2011 (late Nov I think) from SCG when it first came out. It has the 'Encorn' box LOL. It came stock calibrated for Espresso, so you can use it with very nicely with a pressurized portafilter, and with a non-pressurized portafilter as well. However, with a non-pressurized portafilter you only have 2-3 serviceable settings about 10-15 seconds between each setting. So you will need to compensate with dose and tamp, but you can get really decent shots none-the-less after you learn proper technique. Anyways, I only used it for espresso for the last month and half (got an espresso machine in late Jan) before I upgraded two weeks ago.

I used it for pourovers and aeropress mostly, with occasional french press. For these prep methods, it is a fantastic grinder. And I didn't feel the need to upgrade if that is all I was doing. If I wasn't a grad student I would keep it, but I need the money--so it must go.

I go through about 12 oz of coffee every 10 days or so. Also, I do not use the grinder for 3-5 months a year. As a grad student, I go back to Cali (home) for the summer, and travel a bunch otherwise so the burrs are in great shape still. I would guess with my light use, they would last another 12 months. But that's up to you.

Should also mention that this grinder is super easy to use and great for single dosing!

Price is 70 plus shipping at buyers expense. [Note: price lowered and willing to ship -- need this to go asap]

Thanks for looking. Next post will include images (gotta go take pictures of it)

Picture time!

As you can see, no scratches or scuffs. Looks good as new, works good as new (better actually, since burrs are broken in). Comes from a well-loved home.

Wanna look inside?

Already cleaned it with a brush, and can run FullCircle Grindz through it if buyers requests ;-)

Free bump to say that seems like a pretty conservative estimate of burr life remaining! My quick ballpark estimate, based on the usage you described, is that you've only put ~30 lbs. of beans through the Encore. Is your "12 more months" guess based on data published somewhere? Best of luck with the sale.

Thanks for the bump! You are good, jbviau! Check it out: Let's take 12 oz in 10 days to 1 pound every two weeks. So, 2 lbs a month or 24 lbs a year. Minus 3 months for summer vacation each year, plus 3 months (oct-dec in 2011) plus 3 months (jan-march). This gives 15 months of usage at 2 lbs...viola! 30 lbs!

Actually, I don't know how long burrs on an Encore last. Where can I look up that info? I know titan conicals last 500+ lbs...but a titan the Encore is not ;-)

Heya I'd be interested but just some quick math - if a new set of burrs is going to cost ~45 shipped and a brand new Encore is 129 from SCG...Having a bit of difficulty justifying your price for myself...

^^^ In case it wasn't clear, sgnoobie, my point was just that you almost certainly *won't* need new burrs for quite a while. Maybe an email to Kyle at Baratza would shed some official light on Encore burr life expectancy.

Hi. I've read that this grinder has a problem with dark oilies, but for the church use I'll be donating for I trust it'll function well for medium and medium-dark roasts blends?
If so, $60 total Paypal, shipped to Boston, do it for ya?
RSVP.
Thanks
Ern

Hi Ern, I honestly can't answer that since I use light-medium roasted coffee. I'm sure you can find that info using google and/or calling Baratza. Send me an email if you want to discuss your offer further. Best, j
