Subject: No longer for sale. VST Standard Refractometer.

I am listing my VST standard refractometer for sale.

I have the original storage box with foam insert and magnetic lid closure, a soft case with belt loop, a lanyard (very stylish to wear the device on the lanyard around one's neck when not being worn on the belt), and I will include some single use syringe filters for espresso, syringes, and pipettes, as well as some alcohol wipes (for cleaning).

I've had it for about 20 months. It works great and I've never had any problems. I'm interested in selling it in order to get the more expensive lab model refractometer. This one has both coffee and espresso modes. It is very user friendly. I find being able to quantify dissolved solids and calculate extraction from the grounds extremely valuable and has been a real revelation for me.

Here is the product link from VST:

If it makes a difference I'd be willing to work out a deal to sell some VST precision filter baskets with it. I have standard ridged versions of 18, 20, and 22 gram baskets if this would make a difference to a potential buyer. The baskets have all seen household use only. I have the original boxes and quality control reports. I have two of each so I can part with one of any or all of those sizes if wanted. New baskets are $29 currently and are also available with no ridge (the ridge allows the metal clip in the portafilter to retain the basket securely such as when knocking out a spent puck). Price in the listing does not include any baskets, just the refractometer and accessories/supplies.

I intend to post some pictures. Thanks for looking!

The refractometer is still available. Here's a picture of my refractometer looking majestic.

May I ask what makes you want to upgrade to a more sophisticated meter? Can you list any pro's / cons that inspired the upgrade?

Here is a good comparison chart from the VST website:

I think both meters are excellent values at their respective prices. In other words, I think both are different and well worth their prices. The standard one is excellent and a lower price, and the Lab one is even more excellent and a higher price.

Highlights of the improvements you get in the Lab model are: higher precision (but both are adequately precise), automatically averages 30 scans as opposed to displaying the result of one scan, double the battery life, a lid for the sample well, and more expensive construction of the unit (stainless steel sample well vs plastic, sapphire prism vs glass, more rugged body of the unit). The display is also back lighted.

In other words, there is nothing wrong with the standard refractometer, and it is an excellent value. The Lab model is fancier and also worth the money. If I can sell this standard one I want to spend more and get the fancier lab model.

I hope that helps! Thanks for looking!

Hope I'm not digging up old posts, but I'm looking for a refractometer with coffee and espresso scales.  Email didn't work for me so if you still have it, let me know...I'm interested.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but I've decided to keep the refractometer. Thanks for the interest.
