It's time for me to upgrade my espresso machine but it's not because the Silvia was a disapointment. I love the reliability of this entry level machine.
I'm a technician and did some mods to bring the Silvia to its best. I've added and Auber PID with pre-infusion but did not just glue the thing under the machine head. The PID has been installed like if Rancilio would have done it. Since the PID was installed inside the machine, I've added a fan to be sure the heat wouldn't be a problem. When you install a PID, the manual switchs aren't function like on an unaltered machine so I put a couple of relays to run the machine manually like it was intented to. Finally I installed a glycerin filled pressure gauge to be sure that the relief is operating at the recommended setpoint.
Condition is like new except for some scuffs on the tray which is quite normal
Asking $800 + actual shipping cost which is more than the price of today's V3 but I can assure you that you won't see another Silvia with this kind of refinement around.
