Posted Thu Feb 28, 2013, 12:46pm Subject: GONE!: Gaggia MDF Grinder (original model, refurbed but has issues)
This is the Gaggia Mk I MDF grinder, built like a tank, with solid metal outer casing, heavy brass burr holders, and extra thick and heavy polycarbonate hopper. It was acquired used a few years ago, but immediately relegated to a storage shelf following my nearly concurrent acquisition of a bargain used SJ in great condition.
Recently, I decided to try to recondition and sell it. I have thus repaired the notoriously flimsy doser vanes part, installed new leads to the motor windings, given it a thorough cleaning and lube, and replaced the burrs.
Even so, and to my great surprise and annoyance, it still refuses to produce an espresso grind, even though all the parts appear to be present and functioning perfectly. I have adjusted the burrs to minimum clearance, tried different burrs, tweaked and prodded it till the cows come home, but no joy. I the end, I don't have a clue what the issue is and have concluded that this machine is simply beyond my level of technical expertise to troubleshoot at this level. I am therefore throwing in the towel and putting it up for sale, in preparation for our big move to a new home next month.
The grinder includes a set of new burrs installed, plus two other sets which appear to still be good.
I will collect offers over the next week. Best offer takes it.
The unit will be packed up in a 14" x 14" x 10" box with a total weight of 15 lbs and shipped from zip code 02747, buyer to pay for shipping.
