Hi, upgraditis has caught up to me and I need to make some room on my counter to be reasonable. I have 3 fabulous grinders and ideally would like to end up with 1 (realistically 2). All three are for sale until I decide which I MUST keep or doesn't sell.
First up: Older Mazzer Major. Built like a tank Mazzer. This one is older but not vintage old as I think the really old ones has a non stainless doser. Its been stripped of original primer and paint and polished before it was refinished with a black enamel. The doser has been heavily modified to single dosing (all original parts are still available if it wants to be converted back to original). The vanes have been filed down so that it doesn't retain grounds. The inside of the doser bottom has been polished and buffed down so that a lot less grounds are retained. An inverted stainless funnel has been fitted over the doser vanes so that grounds don't get trapped on top like usual. The clear plastic for the doser has been removed and I cut some thin ipad screen protector to cover the windows in the doser. The original plastic was loose fitting and grounds always get trapped behind it and the doser. The plastic I have cut is a bit loose right now because during test fitting I stuck it on without cleaning off all the coffee oils first. I can make another but the original plastic is also available. The last mod that I did was move the electrical cord to come out through the bottom as well as shorten it. In its original location coming out from the left side I was afraid water from my Vibiemme water spout might drip on it. Its much cleaner coming from the bottom and the shorter cord is much more manageable. The original hole has been filled with epoxy and painted over with enamel. Two sets of burrs are included. One is well used and needed to be replaced. I have new Mazzer 84mm burrs installed and have run about 10 lbs through it so far (not even enough to season the burrs). I single dose and use a custom made Reg Barber tamper on the throat that fits perfectly. I can include the original monster size hopper too. Asking $550 with the tamper.
SOLD: Fully electronic stepless doserless Fiorenzato F5GE. This thing is a relatively unknown beauty. 64mm Flat Burrs and fully programmable with information such as date, cups per day/week/month, time to replace burrs, zeroing of burrs, and of course amount per cup. The closest comparison is an electronic Super Jolly. The size of this beauty is the same as the Major. Its width is a bit more but the quality and finish is nicer than the Mazzers. Cost over $1500 and the burrs are barely broken in as well. I have run probably 10 lbs through the burrs and the counter says 2448 (although most of those shots are from me experimenting with different coffees and doses. I have not and will not take apart the collar to take pictures of the burrs as this has been dialed in from the factory and I don't want to mess with it for no reason. From what I can tell and the manual its just like the Mazzers. There are 3 electronic buttons. 1 cup, 2 cup and infinite. I use the one and 2 cups and the middle to purge or top up. There is a microswitch that you hit either once or twice with the portafilter and it fills the basket automatically. I have the monster size hopper as well but I shaved the collar on a Vario and it fits the throat of this perfectly so that the whole thing can go under a cabinet nicely. Paint and clearcoat is almost flawless and no scratches nicks etc., just signs of very light use. Better built, much better electronic interface and more unique than an electronic super Jolly. $700
SOLD: Baratza Vario. Not much to say about this guy. I kind of just want to keep this one as a back up just because its so small and works so well/versatile. This grinder is pretty much a brand new refurbished model from Vario directly. I had a problem with slippage of the levers so Kyle from Baratza sent me a brand new refurbished unit after I couldn't fix mine with the shim kit that he originally sent. I used this for about 2 lbs of coffee so far and it works flawlessly. They even adjusted it at the factory for me just for espresso so i actually have a lot more adjustability options compared to when I adjusted it myself. Comes with everything as new except the Vario box (I have a Preciso box though). $350
I'm not looking for anything in particular but I would consider a trade for a good hand grinder for travel or a Hario Buono Kettle (or something similar). Or shoot me some ideas as I am a coffeegeek and I can't resist sometimes. Plus you guys add some cash of course.

I will accept reasonable offers.
$500 for the Major without the tamper. This has new burrs and I even helped season them a little bit. These burrs last 1500 lbs and takes 50 lbs to properly season them in.

Yes, there really isn't much information when I goggled for information in regards to the grinder myself prior to purchase. However, since I already own the Vario and Major as well as a Rancillio MD50 I was basing my comparisons on some pretty good competition. After seeing and using the grinder I was very impressed by the build quality and ease of use. The digital display is much better than that of Mazzers. I can email a PDF copy of the manual to anyone interested.
I can ship anywhere for actual cost. Calgary would be even easier as its not cross border but Canada Post may not be cheap.
Fancy way of saying "Manufacturers serial number sticker thingy". Usually contains things like voltage, amperage, model number, serial number, etc, etc.
Who sells Fiorenzato in North America in case I need to get it serviced? Did you buy the grinder used or new? Sorry for so many questions...

Hello guys! GOOD MORN I am thinking of buying a new grinder at $500 for the Major without the tamper....... My old one is not working properly if you have one than please leave a reply....

Compared to the Mazzer Mini this is by far much nicer in qaulity and function. The Compak is very nice as well and compares well to this. I'm thinking its more about aesthetics between the two. Used very little and mint condition. The "boilerplate" reads: 110-240v 50-60hz 350watts S/N 25114 01/09
Marry1, the Mazzer is still for sale. I just sold the Vario so whichever I sell first (Major or Fiorenzato) I will be keeping the other one. The Major is not mint but is in very good condition, has the modified doser and new and old set of burrs.
