Got my friend hooked on the home espresso world and he's given me the task of finding him a nice double boiler machine. Needs to be a pour over and double boiler. Can be e61 or other design. Duetto, Vivaldi mini, something along those lines. Email me with some pics, price, condition etc. Not interested in HX for sure. Also not interested in any commercial machines. 110v 15a, not willing to do any electrical work or plumbing, this is for an apartment. Thanks!

Brian, If you got your friend hooked on good espresso you should have also educated him on the initial cash outlay required for the machine you are trying to find. $1000 for a DB?...sure hope that is a misprint or you friend is able to shell out an additional $500 for the machine alone. Then there's the fact that the machine is worthless without a suitable grinder, and ....
I have to agree with the above. You are seeking a unicorn, that is OK, just realize that they do not come around very often and remember that one is not going to jump in your back yard, you will need to go out and search in all the rocks and canyons of far away lands.
You have narrowed the field quite a bit, no plumb in, no 220 v, no 20 amp, No HX and you want it in nice condition which I expect means that it looks nice and does not need work. A unicorn for sure in that price range.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not really sure what compelled you both to waste your time on a WTB thread. $1000 for a DB??? So shocking!!! You act like that is some insane idea. Why not do some research and see what used machines are going for. I've seen mini vivaldis go for the $1000 range, I've seen old brewtus go for that range. Then there's the awesome advice about a machine being worthless with a suitable grinder. Gee, thanks. Was I asking for a grinder? No. Is a Macap M4 good enough for you guys in the peanut gallery? Should I post a picture of my Vivaldi II that was purchased for LESS than $1000?
£660 inc 20% VAT, so ~$880 net of tax, plus delivery and any US import duties.
Pretty sure they don't do it in 110v though, and although it will have CE approval, it almost surely won't have the N.American ones ;o(
But, surprising what can be done for the price.
Seem to get good reports from users. Made by the company doing the manufacturing of the new Londinium Lever machine (much debated on another well known coffee forum).

Macap M4 is a good grider; had one and found it suitable. I actually had the M4D as I can't stand dosers.

QM anitas have sold for $650-$750 a few times in the last 2 months alone. So, a few hundred more for a DB is not really unreasonable. I'm not looking for a duetto or a rocket r58. Obviously, in my price range, something a little older and well worn is about all I can expect. What I didn't really expect was condescending thread crapping. Keep in mind, the brewtus started in the US in 2005 for $1500, so a 7 year old machine would be at or below my price range.
It's a shame your friend is so anti-HX, as Los Angeles CL has a Livia 90 paired with a Pasquini/Cimbali Moka grinder right now for $600 for the pair. If I had the money, I'd be all over it.
the breville dual boiler appears to be around $1,200 new I have not tried it but there are many positive comments on this site not for the manufacturer in general but for the dual boiler no long term track record either good hunting

I was thinking the same thing when I first read this post. In the $1000 or so price range the BDB may be the ticket if time waiting for a steller deal on another used DB is not an option. I personally have not used the BDB but have read that many people are very happy with the build quality, ease of use and results in the cup. I too have seen barely used Vivaldis go for as low as $700 (still kicking myself for not jumping on the CL ad at the time), so a DB for around $1000 is certainly doable, just might take a while to find a deal like that. Other option is looking into a brand new Breville DB for around a grand with coupons.
