I'm taking the step into the world of espresso. I held out for a long time (knowing full well that taking this step would be pricey). I home roast and have experimented with various manual drip methods for the last three years and finally bought my first real espresso machine.
I'm on a budget but have heard great things about both the Rancilio Rocky (would want Doserless since I still do a lot of manual brewing) and the Virtuoso Preciso, and the Vario. Wondering if anyone has any of these they'd like to get rid of?
Really I'm looking for anything that will do. I've looked at the Compak K3 Touch, Cunill Tranquilo, Baratza Preciso/Vario, Macap M2M/MC4, etc. What do you have that you no longer use? I'm up for anything that will give me a consistent grind, easy to adjust for different methods and will last several years!

Josh, please pardon the interruption! I owned a Rocky (nice grinder in it's day,too expensive now) and presently own a Preciso. IMO, the Preciso wins due to it's versatility, exception grind for vac pot, drip, french press, and of course an excellent espresso result. Baratza CS is among the best for all coffee related manufacturers, and not to be taken lightly. As with all things mechanical, stuff can happen. They will be there for you.

thanks for the advice! Just curious since you've used them both, which is quieter overall? Although this isn't the biggest factor by far in choosing a machine, my wife and I are welcoming our first child next week and I want to make sure in our little apartment that the machine doesn't sound like a freight train.
also, i've been offered a rocky for much cheaper than the preciso with some mod's like the click clack lid, etc. Would either of those change your opinion of the two machines? would the preciso still be worth it for around $75-100 more?

this will be my last bump for a while. my first offer fell through, and my second purchase got all the way here but was destroyed by USPS. ridiculous. so, anybody got a Rocky Doserless or a Baratza available?
