This Simonelli MDX is extremely unique. Here are the features/changes:

- All electrical is moved up into the body and the ugly plastic base is removed.
- Ugly black switch replaced with a nice retro switch
- All paint stripped from body and professionally polished (roughly 20 hours of polishing)
- Doser has been removed and converted to a doserless setup (the original doser comes with it if you want to convert it back, it will take you about 10 minutes)
- Completely stepless adjustment of the coffee grind
- Total coffee put through the unit is about 120lbs. Burrs are good for around 700lbs, so they have a LOT of life left in them.

Otherwise, it's a standard Simonelli MDX, it's just been super-sexified. Grind quality is identical to a Mazzer Super Jolly. I have cleaned the unit completely once a week, the guts of it are spotless.

I am using it at home. The grind chamber can hold about 23 grams of beans, and I just dump them in and put a stainless cup upside down to prevent popcorning. It comes with the hopper if you would rather use it. There is slight retention when single dosing, and you'll have to spend about 5-10 seconds with a brush when you're done if you're picky like I am. If you're in a commercial environment and put the doser back on it, then it won't matter. Just to reiterate, it comes with a doser if you would rather use that.

Anyway, this thing is super sexy and I have a ton of time into the sexifying of it. It would look great on your countertop at home, and look way awesome in a coffee shop.

I've attached one photo, but here's an album of photos.  The last photo shows everything it comes with:

Did you use the acid from the orange juice to polish it? :-)

Good job.

Nope, I used sandpaper from 60-2000 grit, and then polishing compounds from there.  It took forever and made a huge mess of my basement.  It's also got a coat of carnuba wax on it to ensure that it stays shiny.

Honestly, I think Simonelli should have made them this way in the first place.  I sent them photos of it and they got circulated around their offices and I got a few complements from their employees.
