Espresso: Expobar Brewtus Grinder: Mazzer Super Jolly
Posted Wed Oct 19, 2011, 4:44pm Subject: FS: Expobar Brewtus, Super Jolly, and accessories
Realized I've used my espresso gear only a handful of times since I moved into my new house, so it's time for it to go to a new loving home.
The espresso machine is the Expobar Brewtus I (the first version). Dual boiler, temperature control, E61 group head. Shows signs of use, but no dings or scratches. Backflushed frequently, descaled yearly.
The grinder is the Mazzer Super Jolly. Burrs were replaced about a year ago, but it's only gone through around 10 lbs of beans. Plenty of life left in them. Includes the hopper.
Accessories included: - Original portafilter with dual spouts. - Additional portafilter: naked. - Normal double filter basket. - Ridgeless double filter basket. - Blank filter basket (for backflushing). - Tamper. - Milk steaming pitcher. - Stainless steel knockbox - Jar of sour salt/citric acid for descaling.
I started out with a Starbucks Athena and a Capresso Infinity grinder. Then upgraded to the Silvia/Rocky combo. Then upgraded to the Oscar. This was my final upgrade. So if you're interested in espresso, get this setup. It's cheaper than the upgrades I went through!
Asking $1399$1099 $999 for everything (see the post below for update). Local pickup in the Los Angeles area.
I'll think about parting it out or shipping it if there's no interest for a while.
Update Feb 7, 2012: Sorry for the (extremely) late update. The Brewtus is still not working properly. I've contacted wholelattelove and they think the most likely problem is with the 'pressure stat' on the steam boiler. The rear boiler is for steam and when it overheats/overpressurizes and shuts off, it tends to shut the entire machine off. So to fix it, it may require one or more of the following:
- 3 wire pressure stat replacement: $41.50 - heating element: $75 - control board $100
So I've reduced the price again for the brewtus/sj combo. But now I'm willing to part it out; $450 just for the SJ, $650 just for the Brewtus. I still prefer local pickup though.

Ok, there seems to be something wrong with the Brewtus... I turned it on this morning and the pump started (normal), but the pump kept running (not normal) until I turned off the machine about 20 seconds later. The pump usually stops after a few seconds, when it finishes filling the boilers. Sooo.... I'll try it again tonight but it's looking like it's going to need some TLC. As a result, I've lowered my asking price from $1399 to $1099. Let my misfortune be your bargain!

The Expobar and SJ are still available. I'm having an engineering buddy take a look at the Expobar but if anyone wants it in its current condition, they're still available for $1099.
