Funny you should mention that, Mark and the moderators are discussing this very issue. Number of posts and length of membership are two minimum criteria that will change as soon as Mark finishes the announcement.
Sorry guys if i have upset anyone, i was actually referred here to post an ad by one of Singapore's best coffee shops. I am an expat in Singapore and as you can imagine, with the economy as it is, things for some of us can be dire, so i must make ends meet and was recommended here.
If you would rather i remove the post, then i shall do so post haste. As it stands, it has probably impacted my price point now my situation has been illuminated, but, such is life.
Why should there be a minimum post rule? Do you think that you should have more privileges because you have 99 posts? does not make sense guy....there are people here who have more love and knowledge for coffee with 1 post than you might possibly have with you 99. sounds like junior high.
Perhaps people with so little posts should start writing some BS so that your criteria should be met.
Simple: to stop people from signing up just to sell a machine. Plus potential buyers can use site activity (and longevity) to determine the risk involved in entering a transaction.
And spamming to raise a post count is a great way to get banned. :-)
Zill, you get a Bump! I didn't have any posts either and sold a mint PID'ed Sylvia here. I don't see the issue, especially since you state self collect!
I'd agree with the minimum post rule. I'm active on a few cigar boards and almost all of them work that way. The transactions here can get up into thousands of dollars, so you need to make sure the person you're dealing with isn't going to disappear on you. That's just my opinion of course.
Well, fact of the matter is i been online in one way shape or form since 1981, not that that counts for much thesdays. But a few points:
1: I just dont like ebay or anything like it, but i may end up needing to use it.
2: If i had a choice to post anywhere, it wouldnt be in a forum per se, but somewhere where there are no replies necessary, where you simply login, post your ad, and people either email you or call/sms (text) you, a forum is a place of discussion, a marketplace is to post an ad, any questions about an ad can easily be asked via the methods mentioned previously. As this thread exemplifies, my original "ad" is now diminished in its impact by a dialogue that, in my humble opinion, should be held elsewhere in the forum. But far be it for me to say what should or should not be done here. It's not my sandbox =)
3: I have already had (local) calls from others that know me in Singapore and who saw this thread and, well, they are a little dismayed that it has been dragged "off topic". But i am only giving feedback here, as i said previously, i was recommended to place my ad here.
So again, a marketplace without replies is probably the best bet (imho) as it is far easier to spot posts that may be scammers, the posts are not threads that can be hammered by spammers/scammers and still allows users new or old to publicly place items for sale relevant to this community, also building its end user base (and reputation).
Thanks to the support out there guys, i am in no way pointing fingers nor blaming anyone, just trying to ride out a depression, where banks wont even look at you and as any expat will tell you, you take the biggest risk of your life when you bring your family half way around the world in the hope of making a better future.

i agree. i'm a perfect example of that. look how many posts i have in the little time i have been here. just because i post too much, does not make me some sort of pro. :)
you take your chance with anything you buy from a stranger. CG should never be held responsible. buy at your own risk. i had someone try to rip me off and send me a fake item on e-bay. i e-mailed and threatend to to take action and he sent the real ones next day air. then i had two.:) what i'm saying is that it was not e-bays fault, it was the jerk i bought from.
i would never buy from someone that does not post on a regular basis, because you might never hear from them again. that is common sense, but some people don't have that, so that is why i think we need some rules and advice to inform them of what to look for in a good seller. you always take some sort of chance buying an unseen item from a stranger. no matter how many posts they have. just because a person has not posted before does not mean you will get ripped off either. you might get a good deal.:)
