I am in the NY metro area and I am potentially interested in this machine but the price is very high (about 2X) compared to other recent deals here and your purchase price with two years of use.
You probably know better then I. This would be my first machine.
I have seen some really nice buys (I think) here in the last few days. I read the consumer reviews and the average price was less then 1K. This machine was used for 2 years and the asking price is higher then the average new price. Let the market place speak and if someone in the area buys it that's great and my loss.
Look at the consumer reviews on this site for this machine. In the reviews it states average purchase price of $950. I don't know what the price is now for a new machine and I guess its $1450. However, that's clearly not the price paid for it two years ago from the reviews. If he can sell it today for more then he bought it for two years ago then let the marketplace speak.
Exactly. Espresso equipment has appreciated in value. Every piece of espresso gear I own would easily fetch what I paid for it when I purchased it new. I sold my 2 1/2 year old Anita a month ago for $1000. The person who bought it is happy with the machine and the selling price. $1000 for a clean, used Anita is not unreasonable. In fact it is what they are selling for. Ed
GC7, As you may have noticed over the past few years, the dollar has slipped substantially relative the Euro. If someone is selling their machine and would like to replace it with a different one, all the new ones sell for 30-50 % more than they did two years ago. That means that all the used machines are also going up in price too. Look at housing. You wouldn't expect someone to sell their home for what it cost 10 years ago given the general rise in housing prices. Considering the $1450 new cost of an Anita, $1000 seems pretty reasonable. I'm all for a free marketplace. Perhaps the housing market wasn't a great choice of comparisons lately :-)
I'll keep looking and probably buy somthing new when my new house and kitchen are ready (not kidding).

GC7,
You are not comparing like machines on both of your examples. Yes, the Isomac is a similar machine, but the Silvia is not even close. And notice the Isomac disappeared quickly.
As for the price, it's very reasonable, and if he'd be willing to ship it to an APO address, I'll make him an offer.
FWIW, my Alexia's MSRP has jumped up over 25% in less than a year! There is no way I'd let it go for less than the original purchase price given how much new machines fetch.
