What's a fair price to pay for a used (1 1/2 year old) La Spaziale Vivaldi S1, assuming it's in good working order?  I know the Vivaldi II is available, for roughly $1800 new, which remedies some of the small annoyances of this first release.

How about a guess at to what you would be willing to pay? :)

I bought one for about $1100 on eBay earlier this year. There are two more on eBay right now - one "brand new" and one "like new". Check back in two days and you can see what they went for (if they went!).

In the $1000-$1200 range seems like a good price to me. (Even a little more, if it's in really good shape.) I've been very happy with mine, even though it's not the II. I've been toying with installing the upgraded steam boiler sensor for $40 or so. (It's supposed to keep the steam coming stronger, although, frankly, this hasn't been an issue for me.)

Other than that, I don't mind the klutzy temp changing method (as compared to the "II".) I don't change temp THAT often. It hasn't gotten in my way, and even though klutzy is MUCH better than the guessing game I played with my Gaggia before.

EDIT: And if I found one on, say, craigslist for $1000 or so, I'd think it was a real good deal! (Assuming it IS in good shape and all.)

PS: In Chicago I presume you also have to budget for water softening and filtering. (Heck, you have to budget that in pretty much wherever you are.) Like many, I got good help from Chris Coffee in that regard. Good luck!
