OH NO.  Not this discussion again ...

If you seriously wish to spend the $$$$$ for this coffee made from Luwak pooh (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus ... looks like a cross between a cat and a raccoon), you can purchase it apparently from a guy on eBay.

Personally I now look forward to some good laughs again regarding this renewed topic.

It's over $100 a pound. Or closer to $200/lb if you only intend on sampling a few ounces. And then there is the question of authenticity. I suppose you could try smelling it..

www.martinezfinecoffees.com/ has it.  I think it's under a different name though.  It's not always available though and you're best off just emailing/calling about it.  They normally will only sell it to a distributor although they've been known to make exceptions.

Are you trying to sell it or just try it?  I know the local Martinez here makes a full pot sometimes and gives it away.  I'm still waiting for the next time they do so for me to try it.

These folks did sell it but they don't anymore. In fact they would sell 1/4 lb for $75 and throw in a
T-shirt with a picture of a civit cat.

Yeah.. I thought about it for a couple of seconds and decided I really would rather not go out of my way to try it.  And that was quite awhile ago.

You know if I was a farmer in those regions, I would capture a few of those animals and just keep feeding them the cherry beans.  The markup alone would be interesting...

Seriously, it would be cheaper to take a trip in the region and pickup their crap then buying it from any one... It would make one hell of a story when you serve it to your guest!  Of better yet, just get one as a pet and arrange to get some cherry coffee to be delivered to you every week or so.  Getting the cherries would probably be harder then the animal.

I have a cat that will eat almost anything (and probably coffee berries).
Anyone want to make a deal? I'll empty the catbox.

I'd very VERY weary of buying this online or otherwise as I suspect much of it is fed to caged animals which, despite the animal rights implications, defeats the whole purpose of an animal that selectively picks only the ripest fruits.

This brings an interesting question to my mind.  Apparently the animal does not chew the coffee cherry  ... swallows it whole I guess.

I am wondering if it could be bred to chew the coffee cherry ... it could open up a whole new market:  Pre-Ground Kopi Luwak coffee.
