Subject: Terms of Use, Policing, Users Attacking Users

I have to start with a question.  I didn't see any section specifically dealing with policing and the subject of engineering a happy community.

Is it OK, to talk about these subjects in the abstract?  For example, if I were to describe a bug in the terms of use rules, that allowed a bad person to get any thread shut down, would that be against the rules?

I'm not talking about any technical method for unauthorized access.  I'm talking about social engineering.

I've seen a fair few of these from the inside.

Threads will normally only get shut down if the subject has been exhausted and posts have descended into (usually childish) name calling and/or personal attacks.

If there is still valid discussion being posted then usually a mod will just remove the rubbish in an attempt to keep the thread continuing. It doesn't always work but I think there's only been a handful of threads that have deserved being locked up in all the years I've been involved.

Hope this goes a bit to answering your question but if you would like to discuss a specific case, email iancoffee@airpost.net or indeed any other mod.

Cheers

Ian

Thanks Ian, yes that's what I was referring to, where threads degenerate.  I'll discuss it further with you in private.  Thanks!
