Folks, we are being SPAM'd regularly by this ding-bat selling fake passports, etc.

Is there some way to get rid of these?  It gives this forum a bad name.

do our Moderators do that?

That right Jerry & all the Moderators (as well as the CG members) are well aware of it! I just signed in & saw all this sh** again, & just took care of it..

If a moderator isn't online nothing can be done. One of us physically has to be online/signed in to manually deal with these one by one, unless they're multiple spams by the same person/entity even across multiple forums., then it's a bulk termination.

Lately, we been inundated with it!
I just now took care of MORE of it.

All of the Moderators are unpaid volunteers (that have their living/professions) that do all the moderating work on the site & keep it as clean as it is.

I'm on this site a minimum of 12 hours a day, 10:00am - 10:00pm., sometimes till midnight.., Mon - Fri & usually on the weekends too same timeframe.

Bots are relentless. Mods, you have my sympathy. I'm guessing the site upgrade here that's been talked about in the past would get rid of some of the vulnerabilities, no?

We're not sure.  We have a spam filter that catches some of these but it's an arms race with spammers.  They are constantly tweaking the messages to get past the filters.

The best thing to do is just ignore the messages.  Please don't reply, I'll see the spam sooner if you don't.  I can only speak for myself but when I first log in, I look at unanswered messages.  I delete all the spam and look for questions from users I might be able to help.  After that I'll scan through the rest of the messages.

Why don't we have a 'report this post' button as many forums seem to have?

This was & is all custom designed stuff back in the day by WebMotif.net (Mark P) & wasn't ever incorporated into or added on to the coding, so I'd ask the site owner Mark Prince about it..

The recoding of the site is a very old story.  Bringing CG to state of the art doesn't seem to be a business/forum priority.  Meantime, spam becomes a metaphor for that kind of neglect, through no fault of the moderators.
