Hey
I have always wondered why you don't have a column about Superautomatic machines?  There is basically no help for them.  They go to the espresso discussion and get razzed by all the geeks that think espresso is the only way to go.  There are lots more of the supers out there that want help but don't want to get razzed by the others, so they stay away.

I agree. Having started out with a semi-automatic, I can say there is no substitute for a superautomatic for home use.

Who needs a discussion? You push some buttons, and out spews subpar faux-spresso. Discussion over.

Such foolish replies where probably common when automatic transmissions come onto the scene.

The whole point of a super-auto is that it's a black box, and you can't do much tweaking.  On my J5, I can fiddle the grind (in relatively large steps), and the water temperature (4 settings and who knows what they really do), and that's about it.  (I should note that we use ours as a coffee maker rather than an espresso maker, and it does really quite well at that.)  The Jura line at least is not even repairable by the user, you need some sort of special goofy tool to get the case open.

So, while there are a few of us out here who have proper expectations and are quite satisfied with our super-auto's, I don' t know that we could offer anyone any real help on the subject.  If it's not in the user manual it's probably impossible.
