Today was the first time I ever encountered spam in these forums, like flat out spam. I was wondering how hard it would be to attach a "flag this as spam," feature, in the forums to try and allow the users some control in keeping this at a minimum.
I mean, if the ads were for good deals on coffee related items it wouldn't be an issue for me, but this was for knockoff apparel, and thats just out of place and upsetting in these forums.
I love this site, it is the only place where I can discuss coffee at a technical level and not get weird stares or comments, Id hate to see it turn into *yspace.
-behind every great achievement is an even greater pot of coffee.
You've been very lucky then ;) Or maybe it goes to show how efficient the spam removal is on here.
A few years back, it wasn't unusual to have to deal with half a dozen or so spams per day. But now, for various reasons which I won't go into, it is much rarer - some days we actually get none at all on the boards.
BTW I've just posted this up about spam and what to do about it.

The current release of the site is in a state of stasis as most of Mark's resources are going into the development of v.3 CoffeeGeek. We are pretty good at noticing and deleting spam, but if you see one we missed, email one of the moderators and we'll take care of it.
