Well, it happened.  Finally made a decision, with the help of my wife and Wayne.  Went bigger than expected and got the used Mini Vivaldi that was available in the BST forum.  I'd been contemplating the possibility of some used single group commercials, as well as used/new HX machines in the mid range (e.g. Rocket Cellini Premium Plus, Quick Mill Andreja, etc.).  Seems like the Mini Vivaldi is a great product, and I won't be getting upgrade-itis anytime soon.

Thanks again very much to Wayne for his time and feedback, as well as the rest of you with your comments.  Your shared knowledge is appreciated!  Can't wait to start drinking a cup of heaven!

Congratulations! I would have been happy to recommend the Mini V if I had known your budget could stretch! :) That's my machine of choice. I've been super happy with it and have had no urge to upgrade since I got one.

Enjoy the process of learning your barista skills!

That is and excellent option and should give you a very solid ROI. They are very well supported and they even have their own forum right here.

Yes i have a reason for leaving SCG off my list, yes it is my opinion, yes it is subjective as opinions are by definition, no don't start a flame war because you disagree.

congrats!
hubby and I just took a similar plunge. We got the Crossland CC1.5 and Precisio. Could not be happier! Seattle Coffee Gear was great and "Mike" especially. I will say the Precisio had an intermittent problem with power, however, thanks to feedback on here, I called Baratza on Tuesday afternoon and yesterday (Thursday) a brand new unit was on the porch thanks to "Colin" at Baratza. Excellent customer service.. I JUST now sat down with my first shot on the new Precisio, 6:50am WCTime~~  from beans I bought at a local "Winco" no less, and it was just a tiny bit short, but tastes as good as the one "Mike" made me at Seattle Coffee Gear.
Have fun! enjoy the ride....

Thanks everyone...

Tglodjo, well, I didn't know my budget could stretch either...the total we paid for everything was about double what we originally planned to spend, so we decided this would be our presents to each other for the next year!  I'm glad to hear you're completely satisfied with it, and I'm sure I'll be too.

Thanks Jwoodyu for the S1Cafe reference...I'll be checking that out.  Need to figure out what my maintenance schedule will be, among other things...

Congrats to you too, Dahlia!  Glad to hear all of these companies support their products so well.  Now I just have to wait another week or so before I can start playing =)

You gotta put pictures for us in the espresso shrines thread when you get her all setup. :)

Will do!!!

I'm already thinking about modding it (LED lights, etc.), but I'm just not handy enough to do that...I think I just need to get the machine and learn how to make a good shot first.  Always getting ahead of myself...*sigh*

The LED mod is super simple. Just search "LED" on the S1 cafe forums for details. I purchased my lights at IKEA and installed them in 5 minutes. Can't wait to see pics!
