Subject: Krups XP5240 very loud pop sound while steaming

Hi there!
I got my Krups XP5240 machine for about a week. Couple of days ago before frothing some milk for my cappuccino I was letting some steam out of the wand as usual to get rid of condensation when suddenly the machine made a really loud pop sound like something exploded inside. Once again, I just turned the steam on in an empty mug for like 20-25 seconds and nothing more than that. After the pop sound it went on as normal, still steaming, no burning smell, nothing. I was just wondering if it was some sort of airlock or something really cracked inside. I used it couple of times after, steamer was ok.. I only noticed some water dripping between portafilter and group head while brewing (few drops), pretty sure it didn't happen before the "big bang"..
Please help me out with some ideas, the machine is brand new, I really dont know whether I should do something about it or not.
Big thanks in advance!

It is really hard to say what happened. I guess the short answer is, if it is still working and you can't see any thing wrong, I guess, just keep using it but keep in the back of your mind that it may be on it's last legs and may need replacement soon.

Yeah, I guess I'm packing it and taking it to the vendor. Not sure if I'll be switching it for a new one or go for money refund.. I wasn't too happy with how it was frothing milk anyways - stuttering steam instead of a normal solid flow, spitting water no matter how long you kept in going.. Thanks a bunch anyways.. By the way, what would you recommend between Gaggia Espresso Pure and Krups XP5240? Cheers

If those were my only two choices, I would take the PURE every time. Don't forget though that you need a good grinder too as well as fresh, less than two weeks from the day they were roasted, for the best espresso result.

Just got rid of it with a full refund, will be looking for a good deal on Pure or maybe Evolution. Thanks a lot for the tips!

Donít worry about your machine. If it is still working, then there's nothing wrong with it. The pop sounds you heard may be due to sudden steam out of the wand. Just maintain the cleaning procedure of your machine.

Did you know...? Dark roast coffees actually have less caffeine than lighter roasts due to the fact that the process of roasting burns off caffeine.
