This weekend I pulled two shots on par with a good but not great coffee shop using some taller del taller from Sweet Maria's roasted Friday. The new grinder is working miracles already. Waiting for my new filled filter basket to arrive so I can chop off the bottom of my portafilter so I can diagnose tamping issues, didn't get as much crema as I was hoping for.
If I decided to go that route, where could I find a ready made PID?
If the posts above didn't make it clear enough -- definitely skip the Rocky. If you can afford the Silvia skip it as well, get an SBDU that isn't overpriced and use the savings for a better grinder. The grinder matters more.
I don't plan to elaborate more on the Rocky, but suffice it to say...I've had one and don't recommend it to anyone for espresso.
I liked it for drip but when I realized that I wasn't drinking drip I sold it and the Technivorm. In any case there are plenty of recent recommendation threads that go into the why behind the "not for espresso" recommendation.
