I was thinking the same thing, by dosing higher and grinding coarser, but it just gave me more of the same. By grinding less of a dose and grinding it finer I got my 2 0z before it blonded. I think I ended up going from 18 g down to 15 g, and grinding about 3 marks finer on the micro on my vario. I got a 1.75 oz pull in 30 secs. By grinding coaser and increasing the dose I was unable to achieve this. Live and learn.

"Coarser" and "finer" must be in reference to a starting point. It's quite possible that one person going coarser and another person going finer end up at the exact same point...yeah?

yes it must be in reference to a starting point, and you can get to the same point as in blonding and timing but not flavor, mostly when I ajust my grind within range (after being dialed in) it's to bring out more of a certian flavor profile or different nuance's in the profile, and control your flow by updosing/underdosing and/or ajusting your tamp.

I am getting a about an ounce before my shot starts blonding. The shot tastes great, but I would like to get 2 oz. I am using 18g and the shot runs for 21 seconds before it blonds. If I let it go to 27 seconds I get 2 oz, but the shot is bitter. What can I change to get more than 1 oz before I have to stop the shot?
being the shot was bitter and blonding early was the reason for suggesting updosing and grinding a notch or 2 coarser. In my earlier post I should have said the easiest not best.
