The spent puck can be dry or wet, it depends on quite a few things.

Hi line, I've been following your thread with interest. Welcome to coffeegeek! Personally I think you had the right Idea with the Hario untill you can afford a good electric. When your feeling lazy you can still resort to the Gaggia, but I believe you will appreciate the improvement in taste with the Hario.

I wouldn't, Line, but you need to do what's right for you . . . were it my decision, I'd go with the Hario and not buy an electric grinder -- no matter how tempting -- until a) I could afford one specifically designed for espresso (as opposed to other types of coffee preparation), and b) I found one that would do a better job than the Hario.
There may be more professional reviews on the "Coffeegeek reviews" tab.
Which is the best grinder for espresso isn't answerable. But there are many many good ones.
Most people who want the best espresso will buy a commercial grinder, such as those made by Mazzer, Macap, Mahlkoenig (the professional range) or several others.
There are many to choose from. Almost any fully professional grinder will work well, although the real enthusiasts will have their favourites (which are probably at the high cost - and size ! - end of the ranges)
Maybe that's part of the fun? You have time to study the forum and decide which is right for you while you save- and if the right used one comes along when you get close you'll know it!

Yes, I find this process exciting and fun actually. I learn a lot even if I buy the wrong grinder, machine (s) for this thread experts in any case. And I expect that I'll get more rebuke now that I'll just fine merge into all this text that I bought one more used machine. Francis Francis X3. Also a thing with Norwegians - most or lots of anyway, they has a cottage in the mountains or by the sea. I wanted a machine there too and this was inexpensive again from the secondhand market, and with good reviews from CG. Bur what I do not quite understand - it's the fact that factories delivers out gear that sucks with very expensive machines.
As such as a tamper - Bugatti Diva comes with an oval plastic tamper. It wouldn't cost them much to add by something decent!?! And believe it or not, I live somewhere with about 35 thousand population and not a single tamper can be bought in the whole city. I need a tamper, but what is a good tamper?
