I was going to make a joke but it is too early in the morning for me. (plump vs plumB) If your machine is designed to be plumbed in it should be or you will run it on a bottle with a pump providing pressure. Machines can be (and are) built either way and some can be both.
Are you asking if the coffee quality is different between the two? Then the answer is no. It is a ease of use thing, not having to empty the drip tray or fill the internal water tank all the time.
