Hi everyone !
I'm here to ask a very simple question. Is anyone out there that a custom made Reg Barber tamper with his Rancilio Silvia?
The reason I'm asking this question is because I'm looking to purchase a tamper from Reg for my Rancilio, but if I know the exact dimension of the tamper I will skip the step of shipping my basket.
For example, I'm actually owning a La Pavoni and a custom tamper and inside the bottom piece Reg wrote 49,8mm.

I bought my first good tamper (and each one since) from Reg. My first two were when I still had my Silvia. I chose to opt for the standard 58mm base, but didn't send in my basket or go through the process of measuring the basket to see if I needed 58.2, or some other off the mark of 58mm base. I don't think the stock bases that come with the Silvia are manufactured with stringent enough parameters to allow someone to tell you exactly what size you need. If you can get a hold of some good calipers for measuring I.D. that would be your best bet. Another option would be to get a VST basket, which would not only be better than your stock basket for pulling shots, but also be easier to get an exact fit tamper.
