No, actually Randy's answer is the same one that many would have given you. It's for you to make some effort to be specific and do at least a little "due diligence." (The only difference between Randy and I is that I would have combined both of his posts into one.

My in-store choice was a failure for a rather elemental reason...the cheap thing just broke in half on the initial tamp
With no moving parts, a good tamper is forever . . . or until you get a new espresso machine that requires a different size.

Sadly, since few espresso machines are being sold in coffee shops, there are few if any accessories around. Staarbucks even used to cary a nice one....heavily weighted, rubber grip...about $20.

Just what is considered to be the correct size of the tamper? Is it near piston type fit or is a millimeter or so smaller fine?
My machine came with a nice looking solid aluminum tamper, that is exactly 57mm diameter while the baskets are 58mm inside diameter. Actually the baskets are just ever so slightly over 58mm at the very top and just ever so slightly under the 58mm a bit farther down where the coffee would be.

I believe I read the tampers for the VST basket were .3 mm smaller than the basket. If it is too close the grains of coffee can get between the basket and the tamper and it can get stuck. Too small and it is hard to get all the edges compacted.

So when an online seller lists a tamper as being 58mm does that mean it is made to fit an inside diameter 58mm basket or that the tamper itself is exactly 58mm, which if I understand correctly would not fit unless the basket is somewhat bigger than 58mm.
