Hey folks!
A few days ago, my Rocket Cellini Professionale started making strange "moaning" noises when pulling a shot. I also noticed that the brew pressure wasn't dropping past about 5 bar afterwards. After a few backflushes, the weird sound has stopped, but the pressure is still not completely clearing. Now, I'm a fairly technical person, but I've never so much as looked inside my Cellini. I'd rather solve this issue myself than send the machine off for repairs, and I'm hoping that someone on here might have a clue as to what the problem may be. I'm guessing that my solenoid may be clogged or something, but that's about as far as I've gotten on my own.

Hi. Sound like a dying water pump. They moan and lower shot pressure dramatically upon dying. These are easy to replace. However, consider the pressure adjustments needed after installing. That's when I'd take a Rocket to a professional espresso technician. It could be a clogged valve, so continue to back flush until it clears. A fading pump indicates other problems to come. A professional can fix all problems quickly vs. trying to solve a single issue for days. If desperate, I'd be happy to walk though the inside functions of your machine.

Shot pressure seems alright (unless the gauge is wrong), it's just not clearing completely after I finish the shot. Usually around 4 or 5 bar is still showing on the gauge. I really hope the pump isn't going, as the machine is only a little over 6 months old.

EDIT: While we're at it, do you know the proper technique for emptying the machine of water? There's nothing in the manual about it, and I'd rather not carry around a full boiler if I have to take it in for maintainence.

To drain boiler: - Open hot water wand - remove tip of steam wand - place vessel under hot water spigot - apply compressed air to steam wand. use just enough pressure to close anti-vacuum valve. the pressure will blow the water out of teh boiler and through the hot water spigot.

I really don't think it is a pump going bad, you might have a dirty 3 way valve or there may be issues with the BG. For the most part, when you still have pressure on the basket after the end of a shot, you are not bleeding the pressure off and out of the BG, and thus, my first look is in the 3 way and associated plumbing. These are not vastly complicated machines but some people are not comfortable digging around inside the machine either.

Guess I'll bite the bullet and get my hands into the machine this weekend. Does anyone know of a good labeled diagram for HX internals? I'm sure I'll be able to figure it out, but having a reference would be good for the confidence. I'm a little surprised that this stuff isn't in the owner's manual.

Well crap, I'm three months late but maybe someone will see this in the future with their own Cellini problem... If your brew pressure gauge isn't returning to zero with the pump stopped and the control lever down, then there's pressure at the pump outlet. Either your pump is running on after the control handle has allowed the brew inlet valve to close (The upper valve in the brew head), and you need to adjust the pump-switch behind the handle a little further away from the cam... Or your machine is plumbed in and your line pressure is overcoming the pump and pressurising the brew circuit. Or.. It is possible the gauge is wrong.
