I'm thinking about getting a Nespresso machine so I can make espresso during these hot days. It's simply too hot to make espresso with my main machine. And I'd be adding milk to the drinks anyway, so it doesn't need to be great drunk as a straight shot, but it does need to go well with milk. So how does Nespresso taste? Is it drinkable? Or does it taste bitter/burnt or sour/acidic?

As a straight shot it tastes a little weak, a little bitter and a little stale but still drinkable if you accept the compromise for the sake of convenience. So I suppose it will be acceptable with milk too.

I like most of the capsules I have tried so far. The company uses good quality beans in a very controlled process. Look at it this way - have you loved every shot you pull manually? Some are decent some are not - Nespresso is consistent and convenient - once you match what you like in a shot to the right capsule you are good to go.
I chew coffee beans with my teeth while gargling with 195 F water to enjoy coffee. What is this "coffee brewing" device you speak of?

A My Pressi Twist isn't a convenient thing. Gotta boil water, grind coffee, weigh things out and tamp, and make sure the thing pulls the shot correctly. The Nespresso is a quick insert pod, pull shot, done. Easy for days where it's too hot or I'm too lazy to deal with the espresso machine.

There is also this nice thread in CoffeeGeek about Nespresso (Members Forum: Coffee Recipes Subject: Nespresso). BTW I find that Dan's reviews on Nespresso (jbviau link) are too flattering. If Nespresso was that good I would imediately stop making espresso with fresh coffee and grinding :))
+ 1 to this idea - a free sample or two from one of their retailers will help the OP decide if the taste, price, and convenience match what he is looking for in a beverage system.

Definitely go taste it somewhere. We'd all hat dot see you waste your money!
Everyone I know who owns a nespresso and has come to my house for an espresso based milk drink on a real machine (even when I ohad my Silvia), has said something like...and I thought I was making good coffee at home. One couple went out and bought a Preciso and a Silvia, one couple (my wife's brother and his wife) inherited my Silvia when I upgraded, one couple is simply suffering through their Nespresso, but still talking about getting a real setup.
