TWO MONTHS AGO I PURCHASED A SILVIA,BUT HAVE BEEN UNBALE TO PULL A DECENT SHOT.I BELIEVE IT IS NOT CONTROLLING THE TEMPERATURE PROPERLY, I'M NO EXPERT BUT WHEN I PUT MY HAND ON THE FRONT AND SIDES OF THE MACHINE IT IS EXTREMELY HOT,BUT NOT ALWAYS.I'VE TRIED DIFFERENT COFFEES BOTH PRE-PACKAGED AND FRESH ROAST FROM MY LOCAL ROASTER.I ALSO BOUGHT THE ROCKY GRINDER,THE BOTTOMLESS FILTER,NOTHING HELPS.DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY GOOD NEWS FOR ME.I APPRECIATE ANY HELP YOU GUYS CAN GIVE ME.
thank you for your post but i've read it before, very good one but did not help me.i appreciate your quick response, but i guess i'll be in touch with rancilio again...Thank you very much
agree, sounds like you do need to go upstream. After only 2 months with a brand new Silvia, you should not be having any problems other than user malfunction, and it seems you've ruled that out. Most manufacturers of most products require you contact the seller, and depending on who sold you this machine, it might be your best option anyways (for instance, if you got it from CCS, 1st-line, SCG, sweetmarias, etc). Most Silvias are built like a tank, and should last you years and years without you having to do much of anything other than enjoy it and a little routine maintenance...all to say, don't get too discouraged!
Since it is new I am suggesting taking it back to the shop and letting them pull shots on it after it heated up. If they can't do it then it needs to be repaired/replaced. If they can pull shots- they can show you what you are doing wrong.

well here's the latest.......i bought the machine from everythingkitchens.com. i called rancilio, they told me to call wholelattelove.com because they supply the machine to everythingkitchens.com and are supposed to handle the warranty.everythingkitchens.com told me they will have to call wholelattelove.com to find out what is going on,even though everythingkitchens says RANCILIO is responsible for the warranty after 30 days.CONFUSED YETTTTTT????? WELL I KNOW I AM....i'll keep in touch
When it overheats, if you open the steam wand, without using any switches other than the main power switch, does a lot of steam or hot water come out? If yes, then the brew thermostat is probably stuck in the closed position and the steam thermostat is controlling the machine. In other words, you are most likely stuck in steam. This, of course, takes for granted that your analysis is correct and you are using the machine properly.
If Silvia is left on for extended periods, the case will get very hot to the touch.
