for the hell of it, do you have any coffee filters you can cut and put into the bottom of the basket? the folks at HB have been playing around with a paper filter in the portafilter. Click Here (www.home-barista.com)
might give you a temporary fix for the cracked basket.

Found a replacement basket for the Elli. It's a La Marzocco Swift Double Basket. Cost me $20. Kinda pricey, but it fits perfectly.
So I tried it out, pulled some shots of Redbird, and things seem to be working properly. Checked the grouphead temp with the styrofoam cup/digital thermoprobe method and it reads 200F. Everything seems to be up to snuff. First shot pulled really fast, but tasted okay. Second shot pulled slowly, 1oz in 30 seconds, and tasted pretty okay. The basket can only hold 12 grams before the puck touches the dispersion screen.
I also fixed the exit pipe's spraying everywhere by putting a length of silicone tubing on the end and the other end points straight down into the drip tray. So now it doesn't spray all over the place.
Anyway, things are finally working out. :)
And it only took 100-some posts split between two threads to get there. ;P
