Welcome to the world of good coffee!

There is a good book I bought when I was first starting out called "Espresso Coffee: Professional Techniques" It is written by David Schomer.

This covers pretty much everything you will need to become competent at your new craft. Best of luck on the journey and try to get the shop owner to invest in a better grinder.

I agree... read as much as you can and apply that toward being a better barista. There are LOTS of things to learn. Three of the most important would be a thorough understanding of how the equipment functions, proper drink preparation and customer service. Without focusing on those 3 things you won't be giving the job 100%. Also have fun while doing this!
