Hi,

Does anyone here have information about where I can buy espresso machine in Hong Kong.  My target is to look for pro-consumer class like Wega Mininova or Isomac Tea.

Thanks in advance,
Eric

Hi Eric,

Don't know if  Isomac is available in H.K. But you may try asking "Zambra Cafe" for some information about Wega & ECM's models. Here is the link.

G'day Eric,

Don't just limit your choices of machine locally! I think it would be best to get it online. From what I've seen in HK, I didn't see too many espresso machines around. But again, haven't been back for a while. I know there are some online company that does shipping specifically for Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore. I can't remember any on top of my head right now, but I'll drop you a line when I do.

Anyway, what's the coffee like in HK now? It wasn't any bright when I was there last time, and Starbucks is everywhere :( I'll be going back at the end of the year for my holiday, just wanted to know if it's worth while seeking for good coffee?

Try talking with Paul Pratt of Just Java. They're a HK specialty roaster, and Paul's quite active over on alt.coffee.  They should be able to put you onto local espresso machine shops.

Of course you could always get one from Alan Frew of Coffee for Connoisseurs. He regularly ships machines to the Asian region from Melbourne, and he's now selling the La Scala Butterfly (e61 HX machine).

Hi,

Many thanks to all of you!  I have contacted with Zambra and I will go and meet the sales to know more details on Wega.  I did have think about to order from overseas.  However, overseas maintenance would be a concern for me as I'm new to such class of espresso machine.  I perfer to have training or at least introduction to the product if I could get from local retailer.  I didn't contact with JustJava as my budget may be too limited to what they're offering.  Currently, Mininova seems to be the only one choice with HX and E61 I can find in Hong Kong for my budget.

Henry, the coffee life in Hong Kong is going hot as many and many small cafes are setting up in the city.  They run good business from having young people as their target customers.  I guess it's almost like 5 or 6 years ago in Taiwan.  Some young people seems don't care much about the quality of the coffee.  They like to be there chatting with each other.  Last few years, I did search around to find good coffee.  There wasn't many before Starbucks invaded the island.  Last year, when I was still spending money on bitter espresso in Starbucks, I came across Zambra.  Her espresso is amazing!  I really could taste what the book told me! But they sometimes failed ;-)  I recently love their latte as one of the guys in there can really make good latte art.  When you come to Hong Kong next time, it's worth to have a try in Zambra.

Thanks again!

Eric,

I think the boy who could pour good latte art is the guy you mentioned.

Hi Eric,

No..........I'm just one of the customers always there. Everytime I order a latte, he would pour a cup of nice latte art for me.

So... how much are you paying for the Mininova? and what is your budget?

Thanks for the note on Zambra, and I should try it out. I noticed a picture on their website that they use a LaMarzocco FB70 in the cafe, and it sounded like they know how to use it properly. I'm always suprised when people can use this machine properly because I've been to several cafes who don't know what they're doing with it  :s

if you'd have your machine by the time I come back to Hong Kong (early December), I can bring you some Australian local coffee to compare them with Zambra's!!! I'm now really excited about coming to Hong Kong and  tasting "good" coffee!!

Yes Henry,  there is the only one FB70 I can see in hong kong.  I believe they have training of using that machine.  just remember not to come when lunch time.  there are so many people and probably the guy is too busy to pour good milk for you.

They quoted me prices for two models of EPU.  the PV is HKD13,700 and PR is HKD15,700.  My choice would be PV.  I expected to pay less for that as I did search on Internet for that model with cheaper price.  However, I should also bear the risk of overseas maintenance issue.  I hope I can get discount if I also purchase with a grinder.

I've another question about how good the PR comparing with PV except its quietness.

Thanks,
Eric
