I bought a used Nuova Simonelli Oscar very cheaply off ebay.. I immediately began cleaning the machine, and I decided to drain the steam wand to begin. I kid you not I have drained over a liter of black gunk from the boiler and it doesn't seem to be slowing down. The machine seems to be working fine but it smells like fire and is absolutely gross. Any ideas?

Lot of Oscar pros on this site that may give you better suggestions.
If it were me I'd pull it all apart and clean/descale it before any further use. I think sometimes when the heating element blows out it can create a black gunk in the boiler, at least I've seen that in photos. Does the heating element look like it's been replaced?
Order up some new heating element gaskets or cut your own. Pull out that boiler, open it up and descale it in a 5 gallon bucket. It'll look brand new after a good soak.
