Espresso: La Spaziale Mini Vivaldi II Grinder: Baratza Vario

Not sure which other machines you might have looked at and excluded from your DB list, but I might also suggest looking into the La Spaziale Vivaldi (Mini has tank, regular is plumbed) or Dream (T has tank, regular is plumbed) line, if you haven't already done so. They are around or slightly lower in price compared to the 2B. It can handle 15 or 20 amps. Chris Coffee says it's their #1 selling home espresso machine.
Now, I don't have any experience with any other machines. My Mini Vivaldi II is my first machine. I will say that I understand the aesthetic appeal of shiny, all-metal E-61 groups. However, I'm extremely happy with my machine, and its look has grown on me. It is somewhat wide, though.
I'm sure any of the machines at this price range will easily handle multiple milk drinks. My Mini handles back-to-back drinks easily, and steam power is quite strong. Also, it's an automatic, so if you want something possibly easier to handle for your wife, you can program volume and just push a button for extraction.
