Posted Sat Jan 4, 2014, 9:00am Subject: Newbie Question: Rancilio Silvia Shower Screen Not Flush
Last year I changed the gasket and shower screen on my Silva (either v1or v2, not sure) with no trouble (many years of buildup and not realizing the unit needed maintenance - yeah, I know...). Anyway, I hadn't noticed at that time, or during subsequent cleanings, that the shower screen didn't sit flush after reassembling. This time I noticed the screen wasn't flush with the dispersion plate when I put it back together. When I attached it back to the machine and ran water through the head I see that water was coming through the sides rather than straight through. I have checked many times and I have assembled it correctly.
1) Is what I describe above "normal"? I thought maybe it is always this way and that the pressure from the portafilter causes the screen to sit flush. (This seems unlikely to me however) 2) If not, what could the problem be, taking into account I actually do have the parts assembled correctly?
