Just got a La Scala 2 group. Heated up, water comes through the group head, steam comes out of the wand, but steam only comes out of the hot water tap, no water. What am I missing?

You might want to check your water fill probe. Generally, the hot water wand is connected to the bottom of the boiler. If it's just putting out steam, it might mean your water level is low.

Is this a HX machine? Most commercial machines are but I do not know this specific machine.

On a HX machine, the hot water is taken from the steam boiler, thus the water is above 212F (100C). While under pressure, the water will be liquid but once the pressure is released, the water will flash to steam.

Some machines have a mixer valve to temper the hot water with cold water before the pressure is released so you only get hot water, however a lot of machines do not have this and will produce a short burst of water (what is in the line after the boiler) then quickly turns to steam. This will continue producing mostly steam until the temp in the boiler drops below boiling, normally after fresh, cold make up water in pumped in.

If this does not apply, sorry.
