Ever since buying my new Duetto  and having my Condo outfitted with a new electric meter  (unrelated) My electric bill had skyrocketed by over 100%. My HOA thinks it is my espresso machine that is the cause of the $50 increase. I say Bologna! I think it is a bad meter. So in desperation I called Sebastian at Great Infusions to see if he had any wisdom to throw my way. He wasn't at work on Friday, but his assistant Dorelle took my message.

What a surprise it was when I got an email from her today. It seems she did some research on my behalf  and found a thread on coffee geek  on this very same subject. Great Infusions is the best!

Great Infusions is a wonderful shop full of all sorts of goodies. I love the fact that you can walk in and see various machines being repaired, and get advice from Dale or Sebastian, and usually pick up whatever you need. Sometimes I've found myself spending a little more there for parts then I may have been able to get from espressoparts*, cafeparts* or elsewhere online - and feeling quite alright about it. Local shops rock.

(*) both great companies.

To know EXACTLY what operation is costing you get a Kikkawatt device, you may even find one to borrow at the library. As a reference, my  machine, over an hour of operation costs about the same as two standard 100 watt light bulbs even though it has a 1600w heater.element.

A third option is that you have been UNDERPAYING over the years due to the older style meter YMMV :-)

I hope that is not the case. But I am taking your advise to buy a kill a watt meter. I'll be doing that right after the 49er game today.
